Press/Media: Research

Description

Dr Shereen Fouad, senior lecturer at EPS and Prof Aniko Ekart, ACAIRA lead, organised a hybrid workshop titled “Bridging the Knowledge Gap in AI Technology Among Healthcare Practitioners”. The workshop was sponsored by the EPSRC Impact Builder Award project and organised in partnership with Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust. This project aims to bridge the AI knowledge gap within healthcare organisations by offering bespoke, open-access educational materials for healthcare providers on responsible AI in healthcare, with a focus on medical imaging.

The multidisciplinary workshop brought together more than 50 participants (both in person and online), primarily from healthcare organisations, along with AI researchers. During the workshop, we explored the challenges and opportunities of AI adoption in healthcare and discussed key educational needs related to integrating AI into healthcare, particularly in medical imaging practice. Additionally, we presented an initial draft of an educational framework designed to raise awareness of the benefits and risks of AI. Participants provided positive feedback, and we discussed ideas to refine the framework further.
