Biography

I joined the MBDE department as a Lecturer in September 2014. Prior to this, I worked in the same department as a Research and Teaching Associates. Before my postgraduate study, I worked in the industry as a Mechanical Engineer for 6 years. In the industry, I worked on boiler, dual-fuelled engine generator, gas engine generator, cooling tower, process design and optimisation, and mechanical maintenance of heavy machineries. In Aston, I am working on the development and utilisation of sustainable Low Carbon Fuels for cleaner environment. I work with the researchers of the Energy and Bioproducts Research Institute (EBRI) at Aston, on the development and use of second and third generation biofuels. I have worked on the production and upgradation waste derived biofuels, development of biofuels-based poly-generation systems, waste heat recovery, and IC engine parameters modifications to achieve high efficiency and low emissions. My other research themes are production of 'Clean Water', and solar PV powered brackish water (and sea water) desalination techniques combined with green house cooling system.

Research Interests

My research interests are in developing small-to-medium scale renewable energy systems for poly-generation application. Specific areas of interest include but not limited to:

  • Low Carbon Alternative Fuels for IC Engines and Gas Turbines
  • New and novel low temperature combustion techniques in IC engines
  • Renewable biofuels for tri-generation application, and engine waste energy recovery
  • 2nd and 3rd generation biofuels production, characterisation, and upgradation
  • Performance, emissions, and combustion characteristics of alternative fuels in IC engines; engine modification/parameters optimisation
  • Desalination of brackish water using solar energy
  • Biomass energy: resource assessment, conversion, techno-economic modelling, lifecycle energy and emission analysis
  • Biomass-solar hybrid system, carbon capture and storage, energy storage techniques
