    Dr Amiri is a lecturer and SFHEA (Senior Fellow of The Higher Education Academy UK) with a demonstrated background of working in the higher education sector.  He has more than 10 years of experience in hydrogen and fuel cells R&D with specific focus on relevant processes modelling and simulation. He has received PhD from Curtin University (Australia) where he developed a computational tool for fluidised bed reactor optimisation. His research was in collaboration with Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO, Australia) and awarded John A Brodie medal by Engineers Australia. During his postdoctoral research, Dr Amiri has been working on an Australian Research Council Linkage project that aimed to develop a modular simulator for thermal management and scale up of Solid Oxide Fuel Cell technology.

    He joined Aston University in 2016 as lecturer in Chemical Engineering to develop the process simulation and computation teaching line at BEng and MEng levels. He has developed a new process computation module (CE3021) and an innovative computer-based assessment method that was published in IChemE journal of Education for Chemical Engineers. 

    Dr Amiri has initiated biofuels and fuel cell system integration research at Aston since 2017 to realise both sectors’ potentials in the fast-growing hydrogen economy. To this end, he links the Birmingham’s leading universities (Aston and UoB) to add up their capabilities in biofuel and fuel cells research. He serves as the representative of Energy and Bioproducts Research Institute (EBRI) in hydrogen relevant bodies such as the Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Research Hub (H2FCSupergen) and Energy Research Accelerator (ERA). Dr Amiri is Aston PI for research collaborations in UK’s big hydrogen-based projects including Smart Energy Network Demonstrator (SEND) and HyDEX (https://www.era.ac.uk/hydex).

    Before his PhD, Dr Amiri had 4 year experience of working in natural gas industry as a process engineer. He had supervised 6 PhD student (2 completed).
