Biography
Andrea joined Aston Law School as Lecturer in 2022, having previously taught at the University of Birmingham. He leads the International Human Rights Law module and also teaches Liability in Crime and Tort (Crime) and Advanced Criminal Law. He previously led The Future of Law: Introduction to Technology and Its Regulation.
He was awarded a PhD by the University of Birmingham with a thesis on the legal concept of security in International Human Rights Law. Andrea’s research interests focus on human rights, national security and counter-terrorism, as well as on the impact of human rights on the criminal justice system.
Prior to joining Aston Law School, Andrea was a member of the Criminal Law Team of the Law Commission of England and Wales, where he contributed to the reform of the confiscation of the proceeds of crime (report presented to Parliament in 2022) and to the ongoing project on the prosecution of sexual offences (consultation paper published in 2023).
Andrea has a wide range of experience in working with non-governmental and international organisations, including the International Criminal Court, the Council of the EU, the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights, the UN Special Rapporteur on Counter-Terrorism and Human Rights and the International Bar Association's Human Rights Institute.
