Research Interests

Bimal is Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Management, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainability at Work and Organisational Psychology Department in Aston Business School. He holds a Visiting Research Fellowship at Global Development Institute at the University of Manchester and serves as Honorary Chairperson of Centre for Responsible Business, a global think tank on CSR and sustainability based in India. Before joining as full-time lecturer at ABS in August 2017, he held a research position at Alliance Manchester Business School. 

Bimal’s active teaching and research interests are in the areas of political economy of CSR and sustainability, global governance, ethical trade, sustainability standards, multi-stakeholder initiatives, and collaborative sustainability partnerships and initiatives. Bimal has experience of over 25 years working in policy, industry and research across diverse sectors and has undertaken consultancy work with governments, large and small business, and civil society organisations. To contribute to the contemporary global debates and facilitate participation of emerging economy actors in voluntary global governance, Bimal conceptualized an international Multi-stakeholder Dialogues Platform and Conference 'India and Sustainability Standards: International Dialogues and Conference' in 2013, which attracts partnerships from over 60 international organizations, high profile international speakers and participation of over 700 delegates every year in November. 

He has been the Chair for the dialogue platform and the conference since 2014, and was the founding Director and CEO of the Centre for Responsible Business, which was incubated by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, Social Accountability International and Business Social Compliance Initiative/Foreign Trade Association between 2010-2013, as part of a German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development supported Public-Private Partnership project. CRB has since evolved into an independent international centre of excellence, facilitating social and environmental impacts and organizational behaviour change towards incorporating responsible business strategies, polices and practices.
