Biography
Dr Emmanuel Morrison is a Lecturer in Accounting with teaching and research experience across UK and international higher education. He has taught accounting, finance, governance, and research methods at undergraduate, masters, and foundation levels, and has supervised more numerous dissertations. His teaching practice is grounded in inclusive, applied, and research-led pedagogy, and he has contributed to programme design, curriculum review, and accreditation activities.
Emmanuel holds a PhD in Accounting from Teesside University, an MSc in Finance from the University of Stirling, and a BSc in Business Administration (Banking and Finance) from the University of Ghana. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and is currently pursuing ACCA to further enhance his professional engagement with the accounting field.
Emmanuel previously served as a special lecturer in Accounting and Finance at Teesside University International Business School and also as a business tutor at the Teesside University International Study Centre for Study Group. In this capacity, he designed and delivered modules in business, accounting, finance, economics and quantitative skills for international cohorts, supported student progression through personalised academic guidance, and contributed to curriculum review and quality assurance.
Before joining academia, Emmanuel held roles in banking, financial services, and academic administration in Ghana, including positions as Corporate Banking Credit Risk Analyst at Ecobank Ghana and Head of Administration at Integrity Academy. These experiences inform his applied teaching approach and his commitment to employability and real-world relevance.
His research focuses on corporate sustainability, ESG, executive compensation, AI in accounting, and governance in emerging markets. He has published several papers in high ranked journals such as Business Strategy and the Environment and the Journal of Accounting Literature. His research has also been presented at leading academic conferences including the British Academy of Management, the British Accounting and Finance Association, and the World Finance Conference. His work on multinational corporations and low-carbon transitions was selected for promotion by the British Academy of Management press office.
Emmanuel contributes to academic citizenship through mentoring, curriculum development, pastoral support, and research group support.

Emmanuel’s research lies at the intersection of accounting, governance, sustainability, and technology. His work focuses on:

Media Contributions
Emmanuel’s research on multinational corporations and low-carbon transitions has received national and international media attention. His paper, presented at the 2024 British Academy of Management (BAM) Conference, was selected by the BAM media office for a press release highlighting its significance for sustainability and corporate governance. The press feature was disseminated through major science and policy communication outlets, including Phys.org (https://phys.org/news/2024-09-schemes-linking-company-bosses-pay.html), increasing public visibility and engagement with his work on sustainable finance and corporate energy transitions.
Teaching Activity
Emmanuel has previously taught undergraduate, postgraduate, and foundation-level modules in accounting, finance, governance, quantitative skills, and business subjects at Teesside University and the Teesside University International Study Centre (Study Group). His past teaching included accounting, finance, business, math modules and dissertation supervision.
He currently teaches Financial Management on the apprenticeship programme, delivering applied and professionally orientated content that supports workplace development, analytical capability and progression.
