I am a Reader (Associate Professor) in Sustainable Operations Management at Aston Business School, Aston University, where I am the founding Director of the Centre for Circular Economy and Advanced Sustainability (CEAS), which is a research centre comprising academics and research students from across different Colleges of Aston.
I am also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the UK and a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport UK. I am also connected with prestigious groups and global networks of academics and practitioners promoting and developing education and research initiatives in the areas of Circular Economy, Operations and Supply Chains, including:
- Visiting Professor at MIT - Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Centre for Transportation & Logistics.
- Member of MIT's SCALE (Supply Chain and Logistics Excellence) group.
- Member of the Microeconomics of Competitiveness group at Harvard Business School, Harvard University.
- Research Supervisor at the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) at Cambridge University.
- Advisor for the European Commission Circular Cities & Regions Initiative (CCRI) programme.
- Member of the Academy of Management association.
- Member of European Operations Management Association - EurOMA.
My academic degrees comprise a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science (UFPB), MSc in Management (UFPB), and a PhD in Management (Manchester University). After graduating in Computer Science, I worked in the ICT industry for 11 years before moving into academia. During my time in the industry, I managed large service outsourcing contracts for major corporations in the banking, insurance, and oil & gas sectors.
My research focuses mainly on sustainable operations, logistics and supply chain management, with particular emphasis on exploring circular economy strategies, circular supply chain design, sustainable business model innovations, and the interface between the circular and the digital economy.
