Biography
Dr Galina Goncharenko is a Reader in Accounting, PRME Lead and PhD Programme Director at Aston University. She holds a PhD in Accounting from the Norwegian School of Economics (2016). Her research focuses on organisational accountability, workplace democracy and digital ethnography (netnography). Her work has been published in a number of accounting and management science journals, including Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal, Critical Perspectives on Accounting, Business Ethics Quarterly, Financial Accountability & Management, and Accounting Forum.
Galina’s work bridges research, academic leadership, and cross-sector collaboration. At Aston University, she leads institutional engagement with the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) and coordinates SDG integration across programmes. As PhD Programme Director (Accounting), she oversees programme admissions, supervision, and researcher development. She also founded and leads the Grant Writing Support Scheme (Business & Socieal Science), which has supported early-career researchers in generating over £800,000 in funding bids.
With funding from the Leverhulme Trust and the Economic and Social Research Council, her research explores how accountability and governance operate in everyday working life. She works closely with policymakers, practitioners, and advocacy groups to turn these insights into practical outcomes, contributing to initiatives such as the United Nations Knowledge Hub and cross-sector efforts to creating inclusive and harassment-free workplaces.
Before joining Aston in 2023, Galina was Senior Lecturer in Accounting at the University of Sussex, where she founded and led the Accounting and Society Research Mobilisation Group and served as Accreditation Officer (Accounting). She has held visiting positions at the London School of Economics and Political Science, the Norwegian School of Economics, Leuphana University Lüneburg, and Wageningen University, and currently serves as External Examiner (Accounting) at Queen Mary University of London.
