Biography
George is a UK-based academic, researcher, and Chartered Certified Accountant with over 20 years of professional experience. He holds a PhD in Accounting and Finance from the University of Manchester and is currently a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at Aston Business School, where he serves as Programme Director for the MSc in International Accounting and Finance. His pioneering research on Big Data and audit technologies has been cited by major regulators, including the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), reflecting the global relevance and policy impact of his work. Dr Salijeni has been involved in a UKRI-funded Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project on digital transformation in mid-tier audit firms in the UK. He was also involved in a commission report by Institute of Chartered Accountants Scotland(ICAS) exploring how generative AI influences professional judgement in auditing. Additionally, he has collaborated with the international charity Islamic Relief Worldwide on a digital transformation project in Kenya, helping to strengthen operational and financial accountability in the not-for-profit sector. He is a guest speaker at professional bodies, local and international conferences.
He holds a Senior Fellowship with Advance HE.
A widely published scholar, Dr Salijeni has authored articles in leading journals such as the European Accounting Review and Accounting and Business Research. He has presented his work at major international accounting and business conferences and regularly peer-reviews for top-tier journals including Critical Perspectives on Accounting and the Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal. His pedagogical research focuses on cultivating data analytical mindsets among accounting students through innovative approaches such as gamification and simulations. Currently completing an MSc in Data Science and Analytics at Cardiff University where his project explores Large Language Models and their ability to evaluatproposal bids.Dr Salijeni also conducts CPD sessions for audit firms on digital transformation and has delivered a TEDx talk on the societal relevance of accounting. His work bridges academic research, technological innovation, and practical application across both corporate and not-for-profit sectors.
