Personal profile

Employment

I am a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (PFHEA). From 2019-2022, I led the BEng (Hons.) Professional Engineering suite of programmes at Aston University's College of Engineering and Physical Sciences. In 2022, I was appointed as Associate Dean Education (ADE) for the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences (EPS) at Aston University and subsequently in 2023, I was appointed as the Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor for Edcuation for Aston University and the Deputy Dean for Education for the EPS. From 2023 to 2024, I built and led the University Quality Assurance and Enhacement Unit and oversaw the quality of all programmes in the University as well as leading our University as the Quality Nominee during our successful Ofsted Inspestion to Good outcome. During this time, I also spearheaded the curriculum transformation of all UG and PGT programmes in the EPS in line with Aston 2030 strategy. In 2024, I was appointed as the founding Director of Aston Professional.

During my time as the Course Director for BEng Professional Engineering Programmes, I designed three level 6 BEng Professional Engineering Degree Apprenticeship Programmes (Control/Technical Support Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, and Science Industry Process/Plant Engineer) and added more than 20 major UK engineering companies including BMW, Fuchs, Alstom, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Collins Aerospace, Babcock, Ibstock, National Grid Gas, and Salts Healthcare to Aston University's Degree Apprenticeships portfolio. I also successfully re-structured the exisitng BEng Professional Engineering top-up programmes in 2020.

In 2020, I also co-led the design and implementation of Aston University’s MSc in Sustainable Engineering. In 2018, I founded and lead Aston University’s Engineering for People Design Challenge in collaboration with the EWB-UK.

The programmes that I have led to design and implement are regarded as examples of best practice of programme design and collaborative industry-academica curriculum design and I have mentored colleagues at Aston University and other HEIs in designing programmes of study that meets the needs of industry.

Prior to joining Aston University, I worked as a Doctoral Researcher and a Graduate Teaching Assisstant and Mentor at the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Social Sciences, and later on as a Teaching Associate at the University of Sheffield Management School. I completed my PhD in Renewable Energy Futures at the University of Sheffield in 2017. I did my research in Smart Grids in partnership with Northern Powergrid UK. My project was supported by the LCNF and the EPSRC.

Previously, I did an MSc Degree in Water and Environmental Engineering and annother MSc Degree in Corporate Environmental Management at the University of Surrey. My 1st degree was in Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering.

My two main passions are teaching and engineering for a sustainable development, so since 2012, I have combined my two main passions by embedding Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in the Engineering curriculum of both University of Sheffield and Aston University.

I have had the pleasure of directly working with more than 2000 Engineering students at BEng and MSc levels from different disciplines and different companies over the past decade and I am committed to widening participation and increasing the diversity in HE Engineering Programmes.
