    Biography

Dr Ana Kyoseva is a Teaching Fellow at the Aston University Foundation Centre, where she leads and designs teaching across multiple modules, including the final-year Biomedical Engineering module. Her work focuses on innovative pedagogical practices, interdisciplinary curriculum design, and enhancing the student experience. She currently serves as both Outreach Lead and Student Experience Lead, roles in which she coordinates large-scale engagement events, collaborates with student ambassadors and societies, and drives initiatives that support inclusive, high-quality learning environments.

Dr Kyoseva completed her PhD in Regenerative Medicine at Keele University as part of an EPSRC-funded Centre for Doctoral Training, with research centred on scaffold design for lung tissue engineering and broader themes in COPD pathology, diagnostics, and regenerative approaches. She also holds an MEng and BEng in Bioengineering from Yildiz Technical University, with additional project work completed at Keele University.

Before joining Aston University, she gained extensive teaching and technical experience at Keele University, serving as a lab supervisor, demonstrator, and teaching assistant in areas including postgraduate medicine, synthetic scaffolds, stem cell culture, and tissue engineering techniques. Her experience also includes research roles in cytotoxicity testing for stroke research and earlier teaching assistantships in bioengineering.

A committed advocate for public engagement with science, Dr Kyoseva has organised and delivered numerous outreach activities, including the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition, the Big Bang Fair, the Imagineering Fair, and the first-ever Pint of Science in Staffordshire. She has also played key roles in Aston University’s CityFest and multiple school-focused STEM initiatives. Her outreach leadership has been recognised with a Keele Excellence Award.

Her research and pedagogical scholarship explore interdisciplinary design challenges, real-world problem-based learning, and sustainable engineering education, with recent publications in IEEE EDUCON and the European Journal of Engineering Education. She has presented her work at major international conferences including TERMIS, FIRM, TCES, UKSB, and events organised by the Academy of Medical Sciences.

Dr Kyoseva is experienced in advanced laboratory methods—including bioreactors, 3D printing, animal work, and cell culture—alongside lab management and compliance with the Human Tissue Act and GMP standards. She is a Fellow of Advance HE and holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education.
