Dr. Hossein Zarei is an Assistant Professor of Operations Management at Aston Business School, and a member of Aston Crisis Management Center at Aston University, UK. He joined Aston from Coventry University, where he was a Lecturer in Business Strategy at School of Management between 2019 and 2024. He was one of the six candidates that were awarded by the European Union the prestigious Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate (EMJD) Fellowship for Industrial Management in 2014. He holds two PhDs, one in Management, Economics & Industrial Engineering from Politecnico di Milano (2018) and the other in Industrial Management from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (2020). He is a Fellow of Higher Education Academy (FHEA), UK, and holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice from Coventry University (2021).
Research:
Hossein conducts research at the intersection of humanitarian logistics and sustainable supply chain management where he addresses the question: "How can humanitarian supply chains be more environmentally and socially sustainable?". His research results have been published in top supply chain and business management outlets such as International Journal of Operations & Production Management (IJOPM) and Journal of Humanitarian Logistics & Supply Chain Management (JHLSCM) and have been highly cited by other researchers. He received The Humanitarian Logistics Award for “Research and Academic Contributions” from American Logistics Aid Network (ALAN) in 2021.
Consultancy:
Hossein has secured funds and been collaborating with prestigious humanitarian organizations such as International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) as the project leader for several research and consultancy projects since 2015. He also has two years of work experience as a management consultant in business planning following his undergraduate studies.
Teaching:
Hossein's teaching involves a wide range of subjects related to supply chain management, operations management, business strategy, and research methodologies. He teaches at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and has taught to MBA senior executives from public and private organizations in The UK, including Ministry of Justice, AF. Blakemore, Ford Motor, and UK education managers. He has supervised many undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations and he is currently supervising two PhD students. Hossein acted as the subject expert and external examiner for several postgraduate and PhD defense sessions. He has taught in several cultural contexts including Spain, Italy, Malaysia, Iran, Kazakhstan, and The UK.
