Personal profile

General

I joined Aston Business School in March 2018 as Lecturer in Strategic Management. Previously, I worked for three years as Research Associate in Management Science at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, UK. I completed my PhD studies in 2014 in the area of Organisation Theory at the University of Strathclyde, where I had also undertaken all my undergraduate education in Business Management. 

Research Interests

My research is concerned with organisational knowledge and learning. At the practical level I am interested in how organisations learn whilst coping with change, uncertainty, innovation, and implementation of strategy. I am also interested in the social aspects of learning, such as the role of identity, meanings, and community within organised contexts. Theoretically, I mainly draw on i) situated learning and communities of practice, and ii) the philosophy of Michael Polanyi, and I apply these perspectives to the management literature. A part of my research work I enjoy synthesizing different theoretical traditions in order to offer new, practical recommendations for everyday managerial practice.

My other stream of research is in developing the 'Eden and Ackermann' approach to causal mapping as a research method and an approach to engaging with organisations, in particular with respect to making strategy. As part of this research stream I concentrate on strategy development seen as a social negotiation, and on the ways in which it can be supported. I regularly use causal mapping and group support systems to run strategy workshops with senior executive management teams.

Funding Applications and Awards

  • December 2019: £1,678 awarded as Project Investigator from Strategic Priorities Funding UKRI for the project: Fostering Innovative communities in healthcare with gamification techniques. In collaboration with Agnessa Spanellis and Omid Omidvar.
  • December 2019: Proposal submitted to SAMS/BAM Research and Capacity Building Grant Scheme for the project “The Impact of Political Connectedness and Reaction of Policymakers on Performance and Strategic Choices of Chinese Privately Owned Enterprises”. I took the role of potential Project Investigator who coordinated the proposal submission. In collaboration with Henley Business School, Aberdeen University, Curtin University, Deakin University, Nankai University and Zhejiang University.
