Personal profile
Research Interests
My research focuses on the design, nonlinear analysis, fabrication, and experimental validation of advanced compliant mechanisms that enable precise motions such as translation, rotation, and complex kinematic behaviors.
Biography
Dr. Jiaxiang Zhu is a Lecturer in Mechatronics and Biomedical Engineering at Aston University, where he leads the FlexureX Lab. He received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering and MSc in Mechanical Engineering (Distinction) from University College Cork, Ireland.
His research focuses on the design, nonlinear analysis, and experimental validation of compliant mechanisms for high-precision applications, including nano-positioning systems, surgical devices, and precision robotics. He previously worked as a Research Assistant on the Research Ireland–Defence Innovation Challenge 2024 project, contributing to advanced mechanical design.
A member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Dr. Zhu has received multiple awards, including the ASME Compliant Mechanisms Award, the Publication of the Year Award from the UCC School of Engineering and Architecture, and prizes in the ASME Student Mechanism and Robot Design Competition. He has published in leading journals such as the Journal of Mechanical Design, Mechanism and Machine Theory, and the International Journal of Mechanical Sciences.
