Jisun Kim is a Lecturer in Product Design at Aston University, bringing a well-rounded blend of research and industry experience. With a background in Product Design, Design Management, and Human Factors, her work centres on product design, user interface and interaction design. She has applied user-centred design methodologies across a wide range of product and service development projects in both academic and industrial contexts. Her research focuses on the role of interfaces in influencing user behaviour and enhancing the acceptance and effectiveness of designed solutions.
Before joining Aston University, she was a Research Fellow at the Transportation Research Group at the University of Southampton, where her research focused on future mobility. Her work encompassed designing human–machine interfaces (HMI) for automated vehicles, developing multimodal mobility solutions, and promoting travel behaviour change.
Notably, she contributed to the ‘Human Interaction: Designing Autonomy in Vehicles (HI:DAVe)’ project in close collaboration with Jaguar Land Rover, investigating user perceptions of customisable interfaces for Level 3/4 automated vehicles in naturalistic settings and deriving key design considerations.
She also played an active role in the Solent Future Transport Zone – Mobility as a Service (MaaS) project, funded by the UK Department for Transport. Her contributions included technology benchmarking, interface usability testing, systematic system analysis, and co-design workshops focused on behaviour change with prospective users, informing the design of the regional MaaS platform and app.
Jisun has collaborated extensively with industry, government, and academia, including partners such as Jaguar Land Rover, Govia Thameslink Railway, Gatwick Express, Transport for West Midlands, West Midlands Combined Authority, Solent Transport, Southampton City Council, the University of Cambridge, Portsmouth University and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).
