I am interested in finding new ways to assess and teach students to improve engagement and results.  I am particually interested in financial accounting and attended some accounting cafe seminars to look at new ideas for the classroom which i implements in BF1122 this year 23/24.

I have had the following employment:

1987 - 1993 industry as a financial accountant

1993 - 2004 Sandwell college as a lecture in accounting

2005 - 2017 Kaplan Financial as a tutor on professional accounting courses

2018 - 2022 - BCU senior lecture in accounting

2022 - present - Aston university teaching fellow in accounting 

I am a member of ACMA

I currently teach financial accounting and taxation on all levels of the A & F degree.

As well as teaching I am responsible for:

• School liason activities promoting the A & F degree
• Open day events and taster days co-ordination of staff and presentation
• Supervision of business project students
• Supervision of placement students
• Module lead materials for 3 modules
• Personal tutor to 50 tutees
• Additonal support to students on 1:1
• Accreditation with professional bodies

I attend conferences to develop my teaching skills and find out new ideas to introduce to the classrroom.  I am also involved with various professional bodies which I engage with and who visit students on campus to explain how they can develop students knowledge for the work place.

Attending conferences 

I am involved with professional bodies in an external capacity as a marker/question writer/advisor on an ad hoc basis in my own time, such as ACCA and CIMA.

I have been in educaiton since the age of 22 and taught accounting and taxation in colleges, universities and private institutions.  I have taught all levels of students and all age groups from 16 upwards during my career and have extension experience in writing material, presenting and assessment.
