Biography

Dr José Ricardo Sodré received his PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), in the UK, in 1995. He joined Aston University as a Reader in November 2018, where he actuates in the Sustainable Energy and Transport (SET) research group and the Energy and Bioproducts Research Institute (EBRI). Before, he has worked as an Associate Professor at Birmingham City University, UK, and as an Associate Professor at Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais, in Brazil. He has been a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and the Brazilian Society of Mechanical Sciences and Engineering (ABCM), and acts as a consultant to several government research funding agencies in Brazil and other Latin American countries, including CAPES, CNPq and FAPEMIG.

He has also cooperated as a reviewer of many scientific international journals, including Applied Energy, Applied Thermal Engineering, Biofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, Clean Technologies and Environmental Policy, Energy, Fuel, Fuel Processing Technology, IMechE Journal of Automobile Engineering, International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, Journal of Natural Gas Science and Engineering, Journal of the Brazilian Society of Mechanical Sciences and Engineering, Tribology International, and others.

His research interests lie in the fields of automotive engineering and power generation, and his research experience is primarily on internal combustion engines, pollutant and CO2 emissions, fuel conversion efficiency, biofuels and alternative fuels, including ethanol, biodiesel, hydrogen and natural gas, hybrid and electric vehicles. To date, he has authored/co-authored 62 articles published in scientific journals, 1 book, 13 book sections, 122 articles published in international conference proceedings and 1 patent applied.

He has supervised to completion 8 PhD students and 27 MSc students. He has coordinated cooperative research and innovation projects with industry partners including FIAT-Chrysler automobile manufacturer, PETROBRAS oil company, CEMIG electric utility company, VALE mining company, FORD motor company and STIHL handheld power equipment.
