Personal profile
Biography
Prof José Ricardo Sodré is Head of Department of Mechatronics and Biomedical Engineering at Aston University. Previously, he worked as Associate Professor and Automotive Engineering Team Leader at Birmingham City University, and as Associate Professor and Director of Postgraduate Programmes in Mechanical Engineering at Pontifical University Catholic of Minas Gerais (PUC Minas), in Brazil.
His research interests lie in the fields of Sustainable Energy and Transport Decarbonisation, and his expertise is primarily in the areas of pollutant and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, biofuels, energy efficiency and transport electrification. He has 30 years of experience investigating the conversion efficiency of biofuels and alternative fuels to electricity generation and vehicle propulsion – including ethanol, biodiesel, and hydrogen – pollutant and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, waste heat recovery systems, and electric vehicles (EVs). He has authored/co-authored 77 articles published in scientific journals, 15 book sections, 125 articles published in international conference proceedings and 1 filed patent. He has participated making presentations and chairing sessions in more than 120 scientific events in over 25 countries.
He has supervised to completion 11 PhD students and 27 MSc students. He has led research and innovation projects sponsored by funding bodies, industry and academy, attracting over £8.5 million grants. His world-leading industry partners include FIAT-Chrysler automobile manufacturer, IVECO commercial vehicles manufacturer, PETROBRAS oil and gas company, CEMIG electric utility company, VALE mining company, FORD motor company, STIHL handheld power equipment, and HORIBA mechatronics measurement devices manufacturer.
