Personal profile
Research Interests
Maia Angelova is a data scientist, applied mathematician and mathematical physicists with significant contributions to the area of data-driven models in healthcare, medicine and decision making. She joined Aston Digital Futures Institute (ADFI) in November 2023 as Programme Lead and Professor of Artificial Intelligence in Health.
Professor Angelova’s research is interdisciplinary and at the boundary between theory and application. Her expertise involves advanced data analytics, time series, machine learning, mathematical modelling, dynamical systems, symmetry, and application of artificial intelligence to complex systems in health, physiology, medicine and sport.
Professor Angelova’s long term research programme is on Precision Healthcare. She has strong research interests and track record in modelling sleep and insomnia, diabetes, mental health, chronic back pain, telecare, individual and team performance of athletes. She has published over 200 papers in peer reviewed journals and conferences which have attracted a lot of interests from different domains.
She has attracted over £5 Million research funding from the EPSRC, MRC, NHMRC, the European Commission and the Australian Defence.
Professor Angelova has supervised more than 30 postdoctoral research fellows and PhD students to timely completion. She has significant experience in leading large and complex research projects as Principal Investigator.
