Matt Davies is Interim Director of MBA Programmes and holds the position of Associate Professorial Teaching Fellow in Accounting and Finance. He is a Principal Fellow of Advance HE and has more than 30 years of experience of teaching accounting and finance to UG, PG and MBA students, and to entrepreneurs and practicing managers.
In 2021, he was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship in recognition of his leadership of the development and use of two pioneering experiential learning innovations in accounting education: The Accounting Bissim business simulation and The Count FEFE mobile digital game (which was the main output of the 'Financial Education for Future Entrepreneurs' - FEFE - project, funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union).
Matt is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and acts as National Finance Faculty Lead for the UK version of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Programme. His international experience includes programmes in Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Oman, South Africa, USA and Vietnam.
Since 2021 he has held the voluntary role of Trustee Treasurer for Standing Tall, a Birmingham-based charity which supports people who have experienced homelessness back into employment.
The use of games, simulations and other experiential learning approaches in accounting and finance education; shareholder value management and related measures such as Economic Value Added.
Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales since 1991.
Responsible for delivering Aston's core accounting and finance MBA module (for Full Time, Executive and Online Programmes), finance workshops for small business leaders (via Aston's Centre for Growth) and for practicing managers (via Aston's Corporate Client Solutions department).
