Biography

I am a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Scientist with over 35 years of experience gained from running a successful engineering consultancy business. Its portfolio includes aeromechanical, electromechanical, mechanical, nuclear, structural and vibration engineering, also design project management.

I was first appointed to the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Aston in Birmingham in 1995 as an Honorary Visiting Fellow.

I was then appointed as a Visiting Professor to the School of Engineering and Applied Science at Aston University in early 2009, subsequently as Industrial Professor to the School of Engineering and Applied Science in 2012.

In addition, I was appointed Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor to the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham in 2006, then Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor to the School of Engineering and Applied Science at Aston University in late 2009, also Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor to the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sheffield in 2011.

Current focus of my institution activities involve engineering education and training in the UK and internationally. Royal Academy of Engineering remits at all my universities centred upon Knowledge Transfer to SMEs in the engineering sector. 

Research Interests

Research interests include collaboration with Swansea University and the University of Sheffield on integrity-assessment methods, engineering materials behaviour, engineering education, and student attitudes to careers in the traditional industries within the UK.

2006 – 2011: Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor, Department of Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Nottingham.

2009 – To date: Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor, College of Engineering and Physical Science at Aston University, Birmingham.

2011 – 2019: Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Sheffield.

2013 – 2020: Industrial Professor, College of Engineering and Physical Science at Aston University, Birmingham.

2020: Professor Emeritus, College of Engineering and Physical Science at Aston University, Birmingham.

Teaching Activity

2010 – To date: Lead also Academic and Professional Supervisor roles for Professional Engineering undergraduate and postgraduate degree students which include apprentices employed within various industrial sectors.
