- Acousto-ultrasonics for Structural Health Monitoring of reinforced concrete elements (Available for self-funded students)
Nikolaos joined Aston University as a Lecturer in Structural Engineering in September 2021. Prior to that, he worked as a Research Associate in infrastructure monitoring at the Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction (CSIC) at the University of Cambridge, conducting research work on structural health monitoring applications for reinforced concrete infrastructure. Prior to that he was a research associate at the University of Bath and a teaching assistant at University of Birmingham.
Nikolaos holds a PhD on composite connections for offshore wind turbine support structures from the University of Birmingham. An MSc degree in Renewable Energy Engineering from Surrey University and an MEng in Mehcanical Engineering from the University of Western Macedonia, Greece. He is also a Chartered member of the Technical Chamber of Greece and a Visiting Academic Fellow at University of Cambridge.
His current research focuses on improving design guidelines for concrete and composite structures by utilising non-destructive testing. Of particular interest are acousto-ultrasonic methods for damage detection.
