Biography
I have been involved successfully in a range of large and small businesses at a senior management level and as an entrepreneur.
I am a Chartered Accountant have been actively involved with ICAEW and I am a former member of the London Accountants Training Discussion Group.
I have been directly involved in the processes of professional accountancy teaching and learning from a variety of positions as tutor, examiner, moderator, training manager and from running my own successful business.
I have also been involved in academic teaching programmes at a senior level.
Almost uniquely I am still potentially active and confident in all these roles in different ways in the work I undertake, although my lower level role at Aston has limited such work.
Before joining Aston I was developing new approaches to e-learning alongside my professional accountancy and training consultancy work with professional bodies around the world. I was leading a team who are creating an innovative on-line learning approach that can be transferrable between professional examinations and academic studies in business.
My consultancy work involves working with professional accountancy bodies as part of capacity building projects, being part of a team that deals with strategic issues, regulatory issues, qualification standards, professional development, examinations and practical experience requirements.
My long standing involvement with developing economies and transitional economies in a period of change has given me a depth of understanding of professional, economic and social issues. My exposure globally has enabled me to understand cultural issues.
I have an ability to lead and to be an effective, commercial, senior manager with authority, persuasive ability and enthusiasm that extends to members of the teams I work with.
I also still enjoy teaching across a range of subjects and believe that my clear joined-up thinking with technical depth but an ability to make sense for others makes me an effective tutor. I am also a confident, creative and independent author.
I have been able to use my engaging style in the classroom and on-line.
For many years my work in syllabus and course development has given me an understanding of learning approaches, assessment and examinations.
I am equally confident in academic and professional environments.
I am always enthused to create and develop and cannot stand still since I constantly seek to do things better and enable others involved with what I do to achieve more.
