Dr Siddharth Kulkarni is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer by background specialising in Engineering Design, and Renewable Energy. He received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering, from Birmingham City University, which was affiliated to Rolls-Royce plc.
He is currently working as a Senior Teaching Fellow in Manufacturing Engineering, and as a Programme Director within the Aston University's Professional Engineering Centre, a department within the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, which delivers a broad range of work-based learning programmes, including Foundations Degrees, Degree Apprenticeships and Professional Engineering programmes.
Prior to joining Aston University in 2021, Dr Kulkarni worked as a Lecturer in Engineering Design, at Coventry University, where he was accountable for delivering teaching, module leading, enhancing student experience at UG (class average appx. 250) & PG (class average appx. 110), in Engineering Design & Manufacturing Principles modules.
Before joining Coventry University, Dr Kulkarni was a Product Development Engineer, at Westfield Sports Cars Ltd, where he worked as a Mechanical Engineer for multiple simultaneous projects on design and analysis, and provided Mechanical design leadership in project planning and execution on autonomous vehicle delivery projects.
Previously, Dr Kulkarni worked as a Contractor in Aerothermal analysis at Rolls-Royce plc, Derby. During this time, he worked as a KBE Researcher in the Technology Strategy Board (TSB)/Rolls-Royce funded Strategic Investment in Low-carbon Engine Technology 2 (SILOET2) programme conducting Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis and developing correlation for simulation results with the experimental data, to optimise the design of Axial Compressor Blade Designs for Rolls-Royce. Dr Kulkarni has also designed and developed a Design Engineering automated closed loop system for turbine blade design, analysis, and optimisation under the industrial supervision from Rolls-Royce.
Dr Kulkarni is a Agile Scrum Master, and was solely responsible for performing interior and exterior CFD analysis of Morgan’s LIFECar 2 prototype vehicle. He also has strong experience in Research; Learning and Teaching; and Management and Administration. Dr Kulkarni has authored several journal articles, a book, a book-chapter, and has 7 Patents:- '4' Granted: 3 (AU), 1 (Germany); Pending: '3' (2 = US, 1 = India - PCT). He is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).
