Biography

Dr Bellary is a Reader in Metabolic Medicine and a Hon Consultant Physician in Diabetes and Endocrinology at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. His clinical  expertise includes management of obesity and diabetic kidney disease. He is the lead for Diabetes Renal Service and has previously developed new models of diabetes community care. Dr Bellary has several leadership roles within the NHS. He is  the Chair for the Diabetes Clinical Network Group at University Hospitals Birmingham , Secondary Care Lead for Diabetes at the Birmingham and Solihull ICB and the Research lead for Diabetes at West Midlands Regional Research Delivery Network. . He  serves on NIHR Research For Patient Benefit commitee, UK Kidney Association -ABCD committe. He is the Deputy Editor in Chief of Therapeutic Advances in Endocrinology and Metabolism and also serves on senior editorial board of BMC Endocrine Disorders, British Journal of Diabetes.

Research Interests

Dr  Bellary's research interests include  epidemiology of type 2 diabetes, type 2 diabetes and  ageing, diabetic kidney disease and new therapies for  type 2 diabetes. He was one of the lead investigators of UK  Asian Diabetes Study. He is the UK  chief investigator for a number of  trials in type 2 diabetes and has been involved in EU led studies on frailty.
