    Personal profile

    Biography

I joined Aston University as a Lecturer in Computer Science in November 2023. I completed my PhD in Computer Science in Brazil (2009) and subsequently held academic and research positions across Brazil and Europe.

Prior to joining Aston, I worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at University of St Andrews on a large European digital health project involving partners from the United Kingdom, Belgium, Cyprus, the Netherlands, and Spain, collaborating closely with healthcare organisations and multidisciplinary teams.

My research and professional experience focus on modelling, simulation, and digital decision support for complex systems. Throughout my career, I contributed to the design and evaluation of digital technologies for healthcare and other data-intensive domains, supporting decision-making through predictive analytics, simulation, and data-driven approaches.

    Research Interests

My research focuses on Digital Twins, modelling and simulation, digital health, and decision support systems. My work explores how data-driven models, simulation techniques, and digital representations of physical and organisational systems can support decision-making in complex socio-technical environments.

A major theme of research is the design and evaluation of Digital Twin architectures, including studies in Healthcare and Intelligent systems, such as integrating patient data, clinical processes, and operational information to support better personalised care and management.

I am particularly interested in trustworthy, equitable, and explainable Digital Twin systems, as well as federated and autonomous architectures that enable scalable and privacy-preserving decision support.

My research also investigates predictive modelling, scenario analysis, what-if simulations, healthcare and intelligent systems performance and cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and analytics for healthcare and smart applications.
