German language literature from 19th cent to the present
Popular culture, especially music (Kraftwerk)
My research interest is mainly in contemporary Austrian and German literature with a specific focus on cultural anthropology, extremist aesthetics and popular culture. I am the author of more than fifteen monographs, comprising major academic studies as well as general introductions ias well as seven edited volumes and roughly 60 journal articles and book chapters.
My forthcoming book projects include an English language cultural history of the band Kraftwerk and a revised version of my introduction the the life and works of my PhD supervisor W.G. Sebald.
Dr Schütte teaches modules on German history, culture, society and politics at all undergraduate levels.
I am a regular contributor to national newspapers and literary magazines in the German-speaking world, such as Wiener Zeitung, Der Freitag and Volltext.
I was elected as a jury member for the ORF Bestenliste for literature in 2005.
I am a fellow of the Alexander-von-Humboldt-Foundation.
