Personal profile

General

I received the BEng and MSc degrees in Electrical Engineering from Southwest Jiaotong University, China, in 1982 and 1985, respectively. I did research on channel coding for digital communication systems at the University of Manchester, and was awarded the PhD degree in 1995.

I am a Senior Lecturer with the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Power Engineering in the School of Engineering & Applied Science. I am the Head of the Adaptive Communications Networks Research Group and Head of Wireless Communications – 5G Research Group in Aston Institution of Photonic Technology. I have published more than 120 academic papers in journals and international conferences, including IEEE Transactions papers on Information Theory, Wireless Communications, Vehicular Technology, and Circuits and Systems for Video Technology. I am the Senior Member of IEEE. My research interests include wireless communications & networking, mobile networks (4G/5G), connected & autonomous vehicles, video streaming and quality assessment.  

Research Projects/Collaborations

I have led more than 15 research projects sponsored by research councils such as EPSRC, Royal Academy of Engineering, and industries such as British Telecom (BT), Xyratex, BlackBerry, BAE Systems, Jaguar Land Rover, and Highways England. For example:
