Biography

My research explores the relationship between communication and decision-making, which I have previously studied in the context of public health, product safety, and macroeconomics. My current research is using experimental methods to study the effect of accent bias on audio deepfake detection and how explanation types impact appropriate reliance on AI.

Research Projects/Collaborations

My projects at Aston included:

Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (PGRA)
A collaborative project with Dr. Sarah Atkins looking at effective communication in patient outreach and referral letters. I examined two sets of patient letters analysing the complexity of the language (set 1), and the opportunities to communicate trust with patients (set 2).

'For the Record': A pilot study applying linguistics to improve evidential consistency in police investigative interview records (PGRA) A project led by Dr. Kate Haworth with co-Is Dr Emma Richardson, Dr Felicity Deamer and Dr James Tompkinson, and funded via Research England's 'Expanding Excellence in England' (E3) Fund. I analysed the deliberate metaphors used by police interviewers and transcribers to describe the process of reading out police-suspect interviews in court.
