Abstract

Although sustainable growth is widely researched, there seems to be a gap for a regional study to identify factors contributing to an individual SMEs sustainable growth capacity within the Midlands. It is important to ascertain the main factor that contribute to sustained growth to enable businesses to adopt best practice and develop. This can be disseminated across the region and will have a long-term impact on the regional economic growth, The purpose of this paper is to conduct a pilot study with a micro company, to identify if ‘The BIG Ten characteristics of success’ diagnostic tool (Gilman, Raby and Turpin, 2012) is an appropriate methods of collecting data. This will inform the main research which is to determine key factors associated with sustainable growth. The pilot study will identify potential pitfalls when collecting data and establish key areas to determine sustainable growth.
