Abstract

We investigate the use of a single integrated semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA)/distributed feedback DFB) laser to perform both all-optical wavelength conversion and simultaneous pilot tone replacement/monitoring at the SONET/SDH bit rate of 2.488Gb/s (STM-I6). It is also demonstrated that reamplification and reshaping regeneration of the optical signal is possible under certain conditions.
