Abstract
In April 2022, a woman appeared in an Oxford court charged with procuring her own abortion under the Offences Against the Person Act 1861. The prosecution stated that she had obtained and used abortion pills, outside of the provisions of the Abortion Act 1967, which could lead to a maximum punishment of life imprisonment.
