Abstract

Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the most common childhood neurobehavioral disorder that often persists into adolescence and adulthood. ADHD can adversely affect the education, employment, relationships, and quality of life of the people affected as well as their parents/carers. This chapter is divided into three sections. The first section presents a general description of ADHD. This section includes a brief history of the disorder, epidemiology, etiology, diagnosis, and clinical presentation of ADHD. The second section reviews the evidence-based management of ADHD. This section discusses the widely used international guidelines for the management of ADHD and presents a brief account of pharmacological and nonpharmacological management approaches used in ADHD. The third section examines the available literature on the role of the pharmacist in ADHD. This section discusses a range of services that pharmacists could provide to optimize ADHD management.
