Abstract

Utilizing bio-based materials in water/wastewater treatment have been widely discussed in the literature. Every day millions of these abundant low-cost bio-based materials are generated as agricultural or/and industrial wastes. They may undergo burning randomly or landfilled. However, using these materials as bio-adsorbents adds values to these wastes. The objective of this article is to highlight the key scientific features related to characterization of these materials, their opportunities and challenges for their usage in water/wastewater treatment.
