Abstract

This special dossier of shorter essays turns to an issue at the BBC during the late summer of 2012, which attracted controversy amongst both Asian media consumers and mainstream television viewers alike. Airing in August and September 2012 was the situation comedy Citizen Khan (dir. Nick Wood), screened on BBC1 as six weekly episodes. It caused outrage for supposed crimes against public service, generating extensive column-space and vociferous cyber comment, both praising and deriding it.
