Abstract
This contribution presents CorIELLS (Corpus of Italian and English LegalLay textS). CorIELLS is an open-access bilingual corpus of legal-lay language for Italian
and English. The corpus rationale, collection, and composition are discussed, together
with previous research on the corpus in both Italian and English. Furthermore, a crosslinguistic exploration of lexical and syntactical linguistic complexity is presented, using
the Profiling-UD tool (Brunato et al., 2020) is further presented. Dimensions of complexity
are investigated with Principal Component Analysis (Kassambara, Mundt 2020). Results
for the two languages are compared, and similarities and differences in dimensions of
complexity are foregrounded.
