Abstract

Efficient passive mode locking of a diode-pumped Yb 3+ :KY(WO 4 ) 2 laser using a quantum-dot saturable absorber is demonstrated. Pulses of 114 fs centered around 1040 nm were generated with an average output power of 0.5 W.
