Abstract

The paper presents two multi-year optimization frameworks for solar photovoltaic power generation planning and management to make it dispatchable while maximizing the net present value of the investment: 1) simultaneous optimal planning of battery energy storage with solar photovoltaics, 2) aggregated capacity planning of solar photovoltaic with special switching arrangements. In first framework, a new battery management algorithm and constraints are suggested whereas, an aggregated capacity of solar photovoltaics is determined to minimize the renewable power curtailment cost. To solve the proposed optimization models, an improved variant of genetic algorithm is adopted. The proposed frameworks are implemented and investigated on a standard 33-bus radial distribution system and the simulation results are compared with that of the same obtained by conventional planning models. The comparison results show that the proposed planning approaches maximize the net present value of the investment significantly while simultaneously improving the system performance.
