Abstract

The general working characteristics of flex-fuel engines with different gasoline-ethanol blend concentrations were described. Analysis of emissions was conducted in a 1.4-L engine powered vehicle, tested in a chassis dynamometer following FTP-75 cycle. The engine was evaluated for performance in a dynamometer bench, according to NBR/ISO 1585 standard. Ethanol concentration in gasoline was varied from 0 to 100%. The results establish the ideal concentration of each fuel to optimize the engine performance and exhaust emissions.
