Abstract

An optical load sensor which employed a reversible sampled fiber Bragg grating (SFBG) was proposed and demonstrated. The device was produced by superimposing a sampling index profile on a uniform-period fiber Bragg grating structure using an easy-to-operate mechanical unit. The theoretical simulation and experimental characterization indicated that the SFBG's could be tailored to generate high sensitivity with good linear response.
