Abstract
Studies in the domain of organizational psychology often involve different levels of analysis - individuals (e.g., employees) are nested within, for instance, teams, these in turn are nested in departments, these in organizations etc. Multilevel analysis deals with the differentiation and explanation of systematic variance within and between these levels of analysis. In this article, we will demonstrate, using the example of the teaching profession, how multilevel analysis simultaneously takes into account variables of individual teachers and of school principals for the explanation of differences in the individual teacher's extra-role behavior.
