Micro-channels in conventional single-mode fibers for refractive index sensing applications

Abstract

Micro-channels are fabricated into conventional single-mode fibers using focused femtosecond laser processing and chemical etching. A microfluidic fiber device consisting of a micro-channel intersecting the fiber core for refractive index sensing is demonstrated.
