Abstract

This paper proposes a strategy for optimal placement of phasor measurement units (PMUs) both in the presence and absence of conventional measurements. Multiple objectives such as the minimization of the total number of PMUs, maximization of the measurement redundancy, and minimization of the condition number of the gain matrix are considered. The proposed methodologies are applied on IEEE 14-bus, 24-bus, 30-bus, 57-bus and 118-bus test systems.
