Abstract
A quantitative analysis of the BER penalty due to deviations from the optimal decision level in systems employing optical regeneration is presented. Applying extensive Multicanonical Monte Carlo modelling we study the accumulation of BER with propagation and compare different analytical approximations of the regenerator nonlinear transfer function.
