Abstract
We examined the Mach-Zehnder fiber optical parametric amplifier as the first-stage amplifier within a recirculation loop to amplify an equivalent of 38x 35GBaud polarisation-multiplexed 16QAM channels over distances up to 540km. Record performance was achieved thanks to the Mach-Zehnder design and optimized pump phase modulation.
