Abstract

This paper presents the results of a user experience and usability study on version 3.0 of the Pronunciation Scaffolder, a web application designed to help Japanese computer science majors read presentation scripts aloud. The web app annotates scripts using symbols and colours, indicating pauses, intonation, rhythm, word stress and so forth. Through observation, and thematic analysis of in-depth interviews, we gained valuable insights into how the tool can be refined to improve both the user experience and the user interface.
