This much-welcome edited volume examines the interplay of archives, photography, and place. Edited by two prominent scholars in the field of art history, Geraldine A. Johnson and Deborah Schultz, it includes contributions by academics and professionals from different countries and at various stages of their career from fields as diverse as anthropology and visual studies. The result is a rich declension of the many ways in which ‘place’ — both as a location and as a discursive practice — and photographic archives affect one another.
