Abstract

Rumour has it that prestigious journals desk-reject more than 60% of their submissions. For a long time, many of us supposed that the specialist journals in our field such as (Attention) Perception & Psychophysics ((A)P&P), Vision Research, Journal of Vision, Journal of the Optical Society of America, Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, and Perception routinely sent out all their submissions for peer review. We don't know the stats for the other journals, but it turns out this used to be the case for Perception; only on rare occasions would papers be rejected without seeking the expert views of our reviewers.
