Abstract

The idea of this chapter is give the reader an idea of what is meant by social engineering and what can be done about this type of ‘attack’. In essence, social engineering is an umbrella term which here encompasses those acts perpetrated through lying, manipulation, persuasion, impersonation, misdirection and deceitfulness in order to gain the social engineer’s objective. If you think of how a con-artist works, then you have a good idea of a form of social engineering.
