Teaching Languages in Primary Schools

  • University of Warwick

Research output: Chapter in Book/Published conference output › Chapter

Abstract

The chapter describes the contexts in which children learn additional languages and how these contexts support, or limit, language development. Focusing on the classroom, the chapter examines pedagogies for teaching English language learning (EELL), drawing on research studies. The chapter then goes on to identify current issues in EELL, namely, misunderstandings about how children learn languages in school, inequality of access to EELL, gender and the role of multilingualism.
